The first remodeling challenge was to dismantle the sunroom and figure out the work needed to correct the structure. After that, the next move was to engineer structural supports for handling the weight distribution and for mounting the skylights, using a combination of steel and micro-lam beams. The last challenge was to layout the rest of the design to coordinate with all of the skylights and windows lining up exactly. Another concern was to ensure that everything was as watertight as the VELUX skylights.
With all the right planning and layout work, everything came together really well. The result was a spectacular room with a top row of venting skylights that create very efficient ventilation and allow plenty of natural light with a row of fixed skylights just below it. Such a great view has been created that you get the feel of almost being outdoors. From the exterior the clean, pleasing look blends everything together well and provides exactly what we were trying to achieve.
This was a truly unique VELUX skylight project. We had a sunroom that needed to be replaced in Saddle River, NJ. For the project we had MARVIN windows made to conform to the skylights, as to line the skylights up exactly over the windows and have one big glass room looking out to the pool and beautiful back yard with plenty of light coming in from the sky.
